1871 Helps Digital Entrepreneurs Achieve Success
Vince: And two of the entrepreneurs who hang their shingles here are Samer and Canh. I just have to say there are so many spaces where you can go take a nap on the couch or lounge around and have coffee with fellow entrepreneurs.
What does that do for getting things done because I would probably be procrastinating and chatting all day long?
Do you find this has helped your creative juices flow as well?
(00:43) Canh: Absolutely, I think it challenges and inspires us at the same time.
Vince: If someone is out there and they sort of have this entrepreneurial seed in their head, what advice would you give them right now?
(00:54) Canh: I would recommend looking for an accelerator like this, an incubator like this. It’s like trying to make the Olympics and not having a coach or trainer to help you.
1871 Helping Chicago Startups Get a Leg Up on the Digital Revolution
Vince: And Canh Tran from a company that he calls Rippleshot is kind enough to join us this morning. So it’s Shark Tank moment, tell us about your company.
(00:22) Canh: Our software detects data breaches at merchants like what happened at Target so that we can prevent fraud before it occurs.
Vince: So while what happened at Target a lot of us are finding out at the consumer level, you on the business-to-business level would help guard against it in the first place, right?
(00:35) Canh: Yes, we can help merchants and banks prevent fraud and safeguard the consumer experience.
Vince: Ok so that idea was born here at 1871, what is it about the energy here that lets you work here and come up with a business idea like this?
(00:48) Canh: I think 1871 has been phenomenal for us, I think it’s been incredibly supportive. There’s a lot of energy and buzz here and helps us get to market quicker.
Vince: Ok, but you know the next company, there’s a desk over there, that’s somebody else’s company. Isn’t it kind of nerve wracking working so close to a company looking for funding like you are?
(1:04) Canh: No, I think it’s been very supportive, I think we’re all in on this together. And it’s very inspiring to us.
